I can imagine for everyone reading this that Leicester City winning the Premier League was a massive surprise. Not only did the Foxes keep the ball from hitting their own net on too many occasions this season but they were able to see the opposition out before they had a chance. The Foxes’ season is something to be remembered for years, but my question is, will such a title triumph be repeated anytime soon? Honestly I don’t think it will. Reason being is there are so many teams who you expect to be up there day in day out, but failed and struggled this season. Manchester City are one of those sides who were favourites for the title, and still were up until Leicester comfortably beat them at the Etihad. In-coming manager Pep Guardiola is no stranger to the game we call Football, and he’ll have an instant impact at the two-time winners of the Premier League. Guardiola will more than likely have a substantial clear out upon his arrival and will want to put his own stamp on the team. With good contacts and almost every player in Europe wanting to play for Pep I can definitely see Manchester City being a strong outfit for the Premier League title next season. Another team who amazingly startled most of the footballing world was Chelsea with their extremely poor start to the campaign. Up until José Mourinho’s sacking at Stamford Bridge in December it looked like a shocking relegation battle for the Blues. When Gus Hiddink joined the 2014/15 Champions it looked as if Chelsea were back to their old selves and would climb the table, however their inconsistency means they’ll have to stick with a mid-table place for this season but next year could be a whole lot different with former Italy boss Antonio Conte coming in and rumours suggest a lot of deadwood at ‘The Bridge’ will be departing during the summer. Chelsea will need this freshening up to the squad and that can only be a positive thing if the Blues are to challenge for top-spot next season. Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool keep going from strength to strength at the moment, with the Reds making it to the Europa League Final. Not only does Klopp bring passion to the game but he knows what he’s talking about most of the time. The German has already won a domestic league with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga so he definitely knows what it takes to win a title. Something that Liverpool and Jürgen are both well known for is playing attractive football, and with that comes success. The 2012 League Cup winners look likely to raid the German top division with Joel Matip of FC Schalke 04 already agreeing a deal at the Anfield outfit, but also Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka tipped for a move to the Merseyside club. The Liverpool players seem to play with passion, similar to that of Leicester City, and if they carry that out throughout the majority of next season I can see the Reds being a side to be reckoned with. Ongoing pressure from the media and Arsenal supporters may see manager Arsène Wenger get given the sack during the summer, but if he stays then the Gunners are going to be another title challenger. This pressure on Wenger may force the board and the Frenchman to get out the wallet in the summer transfer window to give a real push for the Premier League next year. Spending big in the necessarily positions could very well see Arsenal challenge their title rivals. The one last team which I believe will be in the race to become 2017 title-winners are Manchester United. The Red Devil’s inconsistency in the last two campaigns has mainly been down to manager Louis Van Gaal’s ‘boring’ football. For some odd reason United will be up there in my opinion. Anthony Martial looks like a bright, young talent and even if Mourinho does not take over, they will definitely be in the top-four. You can see that by some of their recent results and performances, albeit the loss to West Ham after being 2-1 up. A few experienced arrivals over the summer and the Old Trafford outfit will be title challengers next season. Other teams might be pushing for that top-four but will have to settle for Europa more than likely; West Ham United, Spurs and Southampton. Leicester City won’t be challenging next season, not because of their lack of ability, but just on the basis that most of the usual top-dogs will be back to full strength for the 2016/17 season.
