Ryan White has a look at Up and coming stars from the Football League:
This is the article series where I look at upcoming players in the Lower-leagues of English Football who could one day be shining in the Premier League. In this addition of the series I look at Oxford United starlet Kemar Roofe – League 2 Player of the Year.
Kemar Roofe spent his early footballing career life at Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, before being sent out on loan to several Football League clubs; Northampton Town, Cheltenham, Colchester and most recently Oxford United.
After impressing whilst on loan at The U’s towards the end of the 2014/15 season, scoring six goals in sixteen appearances, Oxford United signed Roofe on a permanent deal from West Brom for an undisclosed fee having not made a single appearance for the top-flight outfit.
The midfielder/striker has impressed since joining the club last summer, as the 23 year-old has contributed to his side’s promotion to League 1 with 18 goals and 9 assists.
Numerous clubs will be chasing the Walsall-born brightspark this summer. Oxford United will definitely be trying to keep their hands on him for the new season but Championship and Premier League sides will definitely be sniffing around if he has another successful campaign with The U’s. Kemar Roofe offers pace and an eye for goal, which indicates why the Football League’s top dogs would want him in their side. The latest side rumoured to be in for Roofe is recently relegated Newcastle United.
Once again, thank you for reading and let me know who I should look at next.
