The Premier League Preview – Week 17

Crystal Palace v Chelsea

Chelsea are on unstoppable form winning their last ten Premier League matches and only conceding twice in their games. Conte seems to have found a winning formula with 3 at the back but his men will go up against a tough test at Selhurst Park. Palace have started to rebuild after their dreadful 2016. They were unlucky to be underdone midweek by Ibrahimovic and are looking more solid at the back. Could be a cagey affair in South London on Saturday.

My Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

 Middlesbrough v Swansea

Although only in december this already looks like a ‘six pointer’. Boro have been slowly sliding down the table and their defeat to Liverpool midweek shows that they may not be as solid in defence as many thought. Bob Bradley has yet to make a big impact at Swansea with the Swans conceding 12 goals in their last 4 games. They look to be missing Ashley Williams greatly in defence. If Boro win Swansea would be six points off them which at this stage of the season is greatly worrying.

My Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-2 Swansea

Stoke v Leicester

Stoke are on a very good run of form only conceding in one game out of their previous 4 which was away at Arsenal. Mark Hughes seems to have sorted out any defensive issues that were apparent earlier on in the season. Joe Allen looks to be pivotal in their attacking play so if they can get him on the ball they can cause Leicester problems. Ranieri has warned his players to have a reality check and be aware that they are no longer champions. It’s not too worrying yet for Leicester yet and their performance against Manchester City shows their strength on the counter. Could be a close one at the Bet365 arena, one goal could settle it.

My Prediction: Stoke 0-0 Leicester

Sunderland v Watford

Sunderland are definitely improving for the start of the season and their win over Leicester a fortnight ago was a very good performance however a 3-0 loss to Swansea shows their weakness. It looks as if Sunderland will be in yet another relegation scrap but with Defoe up front they have goals in them. Watford have been going about their business well and are clear of relegation easily. They are winning their important games. This is another important game for them to pick up the points. There will be goals at the Stadium of Light.

My Prediction: Sunderland 3-2 Watford

West Ham v Hull

This should be the easiest game of the season for West Ham as Hulls away form has been appalling and after their 3-0 loss against Spurs midweek confidence will be low. West Ham are beginning to turn the screw and get the best out of Payet. A solid win over Burnley is exactly what they needed. Bilic will get his men fired up for this game as if they lose he could come under fire. Should be an easy day for West Ham.

My Prediction: West Ham 2-0 Hull

West Brom v Manchester United

West Brom have won their last 3 home games and scored 10 goals in the process. You would not have expected this fixture to be sixth v seventh at the beginning of the season but after a faltering start for Mourinho and an excellent start for Pulis the teams clash in a game where West Brom could go 1 point behind United. United are starting to put results together and the partnership between Pogba and Ibrahimovic seems to be blooming with both assisting each other against Crystal Palace. The baggies tend to stumble against big teams and that could happen here.

My Prediction: West Brom 0-2 Manchester United

Bournemouth v Southampton

Onto the first game on Sunday. Bournemouth continue to stun people with their results which have got them to the top half of the table. Goals have not been a problem for Bournemouth having scored 8 in their last 4 games. They have also shown resilience beating Leicester 1-0 on Tuesday. After crashing out of Europe the Saints have more time to concentrate on the league which has been a very average campaign for them. Claude Puel looks like a good appointment and has adapted well to the Premier League. Late goals could be a plenty here.

My Prediction: Bournemouth 2-2 Southampton

Manchester City v Arsenal

Both teams in dire need for three points. City have dropped points all season and being 7 points of the pace Guardiola has come under fire. Missing Aguero for this game really will be a killer for City. Losing Gundogan is also going to give Guardiola a headache with the German being solid all season for City. Arsenal lost their second game all season against Everton and they will be keen to restore normality with a win. Sanchez is in unstoppable form and always turns up in the big games. The biggest game of the weekend is bound to produce goals but not many.

My Prediction: Manchester City 1-1 Arsenal

Tottenham v Burnley

Spurs are unstoppable at home scoring 8 and conceding none in their last two homes games. Eriksen has been incredible and instrumental to their success at White Hart Lane scoring 4 times and getting two assists. Surely this is another easy win for Tottenham. Burnley will do their best to stop Spurs but having only got one point away from home all season you cannot see it happening here. Burnley have got to try and avoid a hiding.

My Prediction: Tottenham 3-0 Burnley

Everton v Liverpool

Finally the Merseyside derby on Monday Night. This looks to be the most exciting game this weekend and surely there will be goals and probably quite a few cards.Although six points of Chelsea, Liverpool are in second and thriving under Klopp. Their need to get Coutinho back as soon as possible to complete their trio but Lallana coming back is a good sign especially after his midweek double. The Toffees showed their intent with a good win against Arsenal midweek. A win would take them 4 points of Europe so the prize is clearly being shown. Goals galore at Goodison.

My Prediction: Everton 2-2 Liverpool
