Championship Preview: Matchday 28

000d756b-800NORWICH CITY VS BIRMINGHAM Prediction: 1-1

Norwich will be the favourites coming into this game, but Birmingham defend well and should frustrate their offense. They haven’t won since mid December, and though I could see this go either way, it’ll be a draw I reckon.

PRESTON VS IPSWICH TOWN Prediction: 2-0

Do I see Ipswich mounting a serious challenge in this game? Not really. Not only do they have a terrible away record, but also have CB Adam Webster out for the season. PNE look good, and should have little trouble here.

QPR VS BURTON ALBION Prediction: 1-0

Two teams with a physical and rough approach to football, and this should be reflected in the scoreline, i.e. low. QPR have much the better form, and should be able to edge past a Burton side now in the relegation zone.

READING VS CARDIFF Prediction: 2-2

Tough one this. Reading are sitting pretty in the top 6 at the moment, but Cardiff have steered themselves clear of the drop zone with some good results of late, and will mount a challenge. Reading will feel they have to win this, but it could be an open affair, and so I reckon it’ll be a thrilling contest.

ROTHERHAM VS BARNSLEY Prediction: 0-0

Whether Conor Hourihane will still be a Barnsley player come this game remains to be seen, what is already known is that Barnsley have been flogging their players like no tomorrow, and have thrown themselves into a spot of bother when it comes to the football. Still, they remain in a respectable 8th place, and did beat Leeds last week, (Against my judgment!) but I can see relegation fodder Rotherham holding them out.

BARNSLEY VS WOLVERHAMPTON Prediction: 1-3

And the following Tuesday they face Wolves, who could do with some points this week to steer themselves away from the relegation zone, having won 3 of their last 6. Should be an open contest.

BIRMINGHAM CITY VS READING Prediction: 1-2

Reading need these points and will be disappointed if they don’t succeed. Having already effectively ruled themselves out of the playoffs race, Birmingham would do well to get a result here.

BRENTFORD VS ASTON VILLA Prediction: 0-2

It’s probably safe to say Scott Hogan will no longer be a Brentford player come Tuesday, so Villa shouldn’t need to deal with much at the back I reckon. They’ve been bullish in the window Villa, having signed half of Barnsley, Henri Lansbury from Forest, and Birkir Bjarnason from Basel and expect them to have little trouble here.

BRISTOL CITY VS SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY Prediction: 0-1

Wednesday will have suspension issues this week having had Steven Fletcher and Sam Hutchinson sent off in the heated encounter against Brighton last week, so this should put the ball in Bristol’s court. Not that that’s saying much, Bristol lost yet again last week.

CARDIFF CITY VS PRESTON Prediction: 2-2

Preston should feel like winning this one, and I reckon Cardiff would take a draw. This should be a decent game, plenty of goals to be seen.

IPSWICH TOWN VS DERBY COUNTY Prediction: 1-3

As mentioned above, Ipswich’s frailty at the back is costing them big time, and will struggle to keep out Tom Ince and Darren Bent should they be given space to operate in. Derby’s away record isn’t outstanding, but should pick up the points here.

NOTTS FOREST VS ROTHERHAM Prediction: 1-0

If Forest don’t win here, then it’ll be a new low in the sorry reign of owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi. They should do, and I think they will. Just.
