After Depay’s £21.7m move to French club Lyon went through, Depay shares on twitter that he “thanks [United] for the memories” in an emotional post thanking the United for his time at the Manchester club.

Mourinho said that Depay was “fantastic professional”. He will be able to take that forward with him in his career and hopefully one day come back to the Premier League more adapt to the fast pace of the English game. 

While with United Depay scored twice in his 33 appearances but could never make a big enough impact and with players like Martial, Mikhitarian and Rashford at the club it was going to be hard for him to break into the team after only making 4 appearance this season under Mourinho.

The fee United played for him was reportedly £25m so United have not made a big loss on the Dutch winger and with shirt sales he may have even helped the club.

Depay leaves England with total respect and many United fans feel that his time at United could not be over for the future as they do see him potentially returning to the club with more experience.
